Football in institutions.

Siddiq Swaleh

INTERVIEWER: So, tell me about your journey in football. When did you start and what made you love the beautiful game.

INTERVIEWEE: My name is Abdullah Noor, a student at Multimedia University. I started playing football at the age of 10 in primary school. I developed the passion for this game when I began watching professional football on TV. My icon was and still is Thiery Henry( Arsenal FC legend). When I joined secondary school I also joined the school team and played football from District to National level.

INTERVIEWER: Right now you have joined Multimedia University. As an institution and many others in Kenya, there has been complaints that the administrations don’t contribute much to the sports section. What do you think your institution hasn’t done or put more effort in sports section and football in particular?

INTERVIEWEE: The school team currently faces many challenges. They include little allowances to players, biasness in player selection, inadequate training facilities and bad dealing of injuries to players.

INTERVIEWER: As a student and player for the football team, what do you think the institution’s management should do to improve on the sport’s sector in general?

INTERVIEWEE: I urge all institutions in Kenya and all around the world to promote football and other sports. Training facilities should be provided for players, proper sporting of talents and also offering psychological support.

INTERVIEWER: For the love of the game, what’s your advice to the young generation or kids who have interested in playing football?

INTERVIEWEE: Children should put in hard work, determination, discipline and have passion for the game.

Parkour runs freely

Siddiq Swaleh

Also known as PK, parkour is a training discipline using movement mostly running, climbing and jumping over things like rocks, trees, small buildings etc. By this, practitioners aim to get from one point to another.

This art was founded in France by David Belle way back in the 1980s. Since then, it has developed rapidly as its popularity has grown so fast with it spreading fast across Europe. With many people finding it hard and hazardous to train and practice it, just some any other art or sport, parkour requires maximum discipline, humility, strong mental and physical ability in order for one to succeed.

This sport is monitored by the World Freerunning Parkour Federation (WTPF), an international organization that was established in 2007 whose focus is to bring together patrons of parkour and frreerunning and aims to bring the sport and philosophy to the mainstream audience.

I encourage all those interested, including fellow Africans to embrace and put effort in this sport. After all, they say we are surrounded by trees, rocks and every material to support parkour’s practice LOL!!!  By this, this discipline would gain recognition all over the world and participation worldwide.

‘Shujaa’, the common nickname given to the Kenya sevens rugby team. A squad that is embraced by many citizens just like those in other sports mostly football, athletics and volleyball it is termed as the pride of Kenya.

The jersey rocks, with the t-shirt bearing my nation’s flag colors with the shields on its side, no wonder they lift our name high. Rugby itself as a sport moves you whenever yo watch it and these guys actually drag you along as they scram, protect and run with the ball and most of all as our superstars dive with it to make a try.

While football produces the likes of Victor Wanyama, Mc Donald Mariga, Dennis Oliech rugby boasts with the likes of Humphrey Kayange, Biko Adema and Collins Injera, with the latter named player of the final in the 2016 Singapore Sevens, after helping Kenya to win their first tournament in World Seven Series.

The team’s skipper, Andrew Amonde promises more each day for the team and our country’s success in the coming years, God willing.

Our Simbas!!!, you always make us proud.

GREAT NEWS TO THE FOOTBALL WORLD

Swaleh Siddiq

Who wouldn’t want to see soccer’s best player in the world back in action?
Lionel Messi returns to Barcelona training as he steps up comeback from a thigh injury in time to face Man City in the crunchy awaited Champions League encounter this week.
The Barca number 10 went off injured during the club’s draw with Atletico Madrid last month and has not so much kicked a ball since.
The 29-year-old was back in a team session on Wednesday and sent a warning to the citizens of Manchester as he came off the bench to score after just three minutes in this weekend’s La Liga match with Deportivo La Coruña. From the 35 minutes he played,la pulga seems to be fit for the Champions League showdown with former mentor Pep Guardiola and Manchester City.
Barca lost to Celta Vigo in their last La Liga game before the international break, with Messi watching on from his home in Catalunya. The Argentine was then similarly helpless as his national team drew in Peru and then lost at home to Paraguay to put their World Cup qualifying campaign in trouble.
His return is a welcome boost for Luis Enrique, well of course that’s obvious.
